Interdisciplinary Skin ATTEMPT #2

Methodology:

Attempt 2 starts from the metal roller. The first step is to roll the initial rectangular sheet so that the curve gradually math the diameter of the bottom circle.

Although it was not recommended during the workshop practical lessons at the beginning of the course, by feeding an angle of the sheet (instead of the edge parallel to the roller) into the roller, the top curve obtains a much smaller radius comparing to the bottom curve. The process takes patience and practice since the raiser roller  behind the feeding ones has difficulty biting onto the sheet.

The result form is much closer to the model comparing to my first attempt (which the sheet was bent by hand).

Copying of contours and trimming

The following steps are similar to the first attempt, however after defining the middle section where the top and the bottom segments meet, materials are pushed away from this line towards the top and bottom edge. The material is getting stretched and become thinner thus solves the problem i had in the first attempt where the thickening of the middle section made it particularly difficult to bend it to a desired angle.

The final work still has flaws where it doesn't perfectly fit around the top portion of the model. Nonetheless, comparing to my first first attempt this is indeed much more successful in terms of the method implied during the process as well as the final product. Stretching and shrinking the metal to the desired direction is the most difficult part as we were told on the first class "it doesn't matter how hard you hit but where you hit".  I surely took my time to learn this from numerous mistakes and frustration.

Total time :  1.5 days ( roughly 10 hours)
Ways to improve: choosing the right tool and constantly switching tools to find the most efficient method / help each other and share tools !!
